Purleigh Emergency Group
A group of people who keep watch and ward over the parish, particularly
during the winter.
It has a reactive function, being required to open up the Village Hall as
a rest centre in the event of an incident or natural disaster, if called
upon by Maldon District Council.
A secondary function is to monitor the well-being of residents during
periods of bad weather and report to Essex County Council Highways. Group
members, living in various parts of the parish, keep an eye out for any
associated problems. Are the roads blocked or clear of snow? Is the power
still on? Is there any major storm damage such as trees down across roads?
At the turn of the century while the partying went on, a radio watch was
set up by Maldon District Council in case the Millennium Bug should strike.
Low key; no fuss but ever watchful, that’s us!.
