Code Of Conduct And Register Of Members’ InterestsAt its meeting held on 11th May 2007, Purleigh Parish Council formally adopted the Local Authorities (Model Code of Conduct) Order 2007, including Paragraph 12(2). The Model Code of Conduct, along with the Registers of Members’ interests and of gifts and hospitality can be inspected
Adopting the Code of Conduct forms part of the Ethical Framework within which local councils now work, and is designed to ensure high standards of conduct in local government. Purleigh Parish Council’s Code of Conduct embodies the general principles of: selflessness; honesty and integrity; objectivity; accountability; openness; personal judgement; respect for others; duty to uphold the law; stewardship; and leadership in public life - principles which Members have always upheld. It also places a legal requirement on Members to publicly declare certain financial and other personal interests. The Standards Board for England is an independent body, which has a key role in supporting the Ethical Framework and in helping local councils to meet their responsibilities under the Code. The Local Government Act 2000 requires all complaints regarding the ethical conduct of Councillors to be passed directly to the Standards Board for England. Anyone wishing to make a complaint against a Councillor in this respect should write directly to the Standards Board, at the following address:
